Wow! The rhetoric and obfuscation going on in this Presidential campaign is just wearing me out!
Below are some of my humble opinions. I DO still get to have an opinion, right? Or if I disagree with you, should I just go to a corner and shut up? Don't count on that happening!
I recently read some comments from Democrats, Liberals, Leftists - whatever they're being called today. They were talking about how the Republicans have "impeded" President Obama in everything he tried to do. Really? How is that a problem?
People, whatever side of the aisle you are on, that "impeding" is the REPRESENTATIVE system of government in action. I know it gets tiresome. Egads, I can remember in my younger days seeing broadcasts from Congress and news reports of various Congressmen doing what was known as "filibustering". They essentially got the floor and talked for days and days in order to delay putting a certain measure up for a vote. And we saw this more recently, back in 2006 when Republicans lost control of the Congress to the Democrats and Bush was President. Bush was "impeded" from that point forward in everything he wanted to do. This street goes two ways!
So, ladies and gentlemen, what we've seen over the past four years is absolutely NOTHING NEW! It has nothing to do with the color of the President's skin. He's not being "singled out" for especially terrible treatment. He simply has some ideas and has plans that a lot of the American people don't like and those people put pressure on their representatives to stand up for them! When the Congressional elections came around in 2010, that was an extremely loud presentation of what the majority of people in the country want - they changed the way things would go in the Congress. The PEOPLE demanded their representatives impede plans they didn't want. That is how our government works, stop whining! Weren't you doing the same thing to your representatives??? Of course. Thus, a deadlock or an "impediment", if you will. That's not a bad thing. It should give everyone a chance to cool down and look at things rationally. That hasn't happened yet but I think it will because everyone is just tired of all this.
The
Republicans are "impeding" Obama? That's what the Congress is there for, to
stand up for the intentions of their constituents, just like the
Democrats stand up for theirs.
Just My Humble Opinion, none of them from either side have
truly sought any common ground...that would be statesmanship, that's
what's REALLY missing.
Doing an end-run around Congress is not right
either and goes against our whole system of representative government.
Using Executive Orders to create legislation from the executive branch..?
That behavior isn't cute or clever, it destroys the checks and
balances in our system, those checks and balances prevent us from having a dictator...someone who just issues edicts and we, the sheeple, must obey.
Think people! Would you like it if a Republican president came in and starting issuing executive orders that thus and such will now be done and by so doing, he took away your right to have your say through your representative in Congress?? If a Republican president were doing that over and over, would you even care what color his/her skin is? If you're honest, I think you would say you'd hate it and you'd be RIGHT to hate it. It completely changes the style of government our Constitution gives us.
We need to UNITE, not keep attacking each other in social media, on TV, every place. We need to DEMAND we have the type of government we're supposed to have and put some civility, not to mention legal behavior, back in Washington DC.
As long as we are picking at each other, they're pretty much free to do whatever they want! Does anyone besides me see this??
