Why Do Lies Exist?

Years ago when I owned the locksmith business, in the dead of winter, people would call saying they'd lost their keys in the snow and then ask how long it would take us to get to them.  Granted, we always had our trucks ready and running but the sheer volume of calls coming on those horrible weather days was daunting.  Very few other locksmiths could even get their trucks started, much less were they willing to go out in that weather.  So as our time window for service extended into two days, I would first answer these people with this "I talk to two kinds of people on this phone - the ones who want the truth and the others that would rather hear a nice sounding lie.  Which type are you?"  Invariably, the people would laugh and then they would say, I'd rather have the truth.  And then, I would add them to the list of people and give them my best estimate about time.....sometimes it was even two days away.  Aside from this, it was nice to hear them say "We'll wait because our neighbors told us not to let anybody else touch our cars but you guys."  But that's not the point of this horribly long post.  The point is - which am I?  Do I want to hear a nice sounding lie or do I want the truth?  Right now, our media is more into entertaining us than giving us the facts so to find out truth from lie, I have to do my own research.  I can't depend on my friends, I certainly can't depend on the media, nor the campaign ads.  So I spend time reading articles and reading books - authored in some cases by the candidates themselves.  I look at actions, large and small, to take the measure of the candidate.  Do I want somebody who's "cool" or do I want someone who is cool and clear-thinking under pressure for our country's very survival or the survival of our citizens here and abroad?  We must decide what's right for us and vote (once) accordingly.

PS  Do you know why lies exist?

They exist because they sound so much better than the bare truth.  They don't help anything but they
           do sound better.
